Composer and musician, looking for striking visual work to accompany the release of my albums
¿Cuál es tu visión?
I am the Music Director and Musical Arranger for American entertainer Andrea Bell Wolff. Andrea has played every major circuit in the US, from US tours, to TV, to Vegas, to Broadway itself. In November 2018, she and I crafted a show called "I CAN'T TRACE TIME" -- which was essentially an embodiment of the madness of what a Trumpian presidency had launched on NYC, combined with news of her becoming a grandmother. We had one of our shows recorded live from the venue we performed at, which is currently being mixed and mastered by Sam Featherstone (who produced the album of the hit Broadway and West End show, SIX). Andrea and I are now commissioning a striking CD cover. TO BE CLEAR: This job is primarily one of illustration -- not photography or stock imagery! (Re attachments below, apart from the Loose Screws photo and perhaps the photo of Andrea at the beach, the photos I have included are NOT to be used for the cover!) All things considered, stylistically, she is visually attracted to bold colors and zany shapes(!). She wants things drawn (or at least appearing "sketched", as opposed to clean computerized lines). She immediately loved the album cover of "Mika: Life in Cartoon Motion" when I shared it with her (see below). From this, much in the way the Mika album cover works, the idea we had for Andrea's album cover was to share a selection of lyrics from the show which one could quite literally draw. All the lyrics I found that could fit this idea are: "a bottle of cold brew", "too much time ticking away with me", a color TV", "a room with a bar", "death by chocolate", "mountains and hillsides enough to climb", "Mirror in the sky", "I felt the earth beneath my feet", "a kind of crustacean", "Mother Nature", "A cloud that hid the sun", "His army's marching", "A snake in the grass", "you rockin' roller". You would take as many of these as possible, and create illustrations of them to be dotted around the design. From these lyric examples, when a listener experiences to the whole album, they should then be able to pin-point how each seemingly disconnected drawn-expression-of-a-lyric speaks to the larger picture of the story Andrea tells. In terms of the featured musicians too, the instruments themselves could simply be nice drawn visuals to play with: cello, violin, piano, acoustic guitar, double bass. So, with this all in mind, it'd really be a free expression of how these things speak to you - drawing from the "pop" of the Mika cover. Also like on the Mika, I would love for Andrea's face to be included somewhere (perhaps "peeping" out over something...a la this attached image of her I found from an old show of hers called "Loose Screws"). Andrea could either be drawn in your own stylings, or, included as the one photographic element amidst a sea of illustration (you are welcome to reach out to me to discuss a different photo of Andrea to use). The copy on the cover should read as follows: Andrea Bell Wolff I Can't Trace Time Live from the Green Room 42, New York City
In terms of the physical CD, we are aiming to print in a "4 Panel Digipack" style (see attachment). So, *if possible* our designer will also help us create the remaining 3 windows of the album design (which would be a quick addition to the harder work that would go into the cover). 1. Most of your work to take place on the front cover (all descriptions above); 2&3. At the same time, we would need something to fill the middle two panels (that you see when you open the CD cover). My guess is, for the middle two panels, it could feature a photo (or a couple of photos) from our live show - with, perhaps, a few illustrations overlaid, for continuity. For the middle panel opposite the CD case itself, we would likely need information of band members and general credits. For this: please see the three photographs included of Andrea performing live -- this is what I'm thinking for that Inside Cover. 4. Then, for the back, something very simple (perhaps a featured texture from the front cover), so that we can feature the track listing.
