Today we announced the acquisition of Brazilian creative graphic design marketplace LogoChef, and named LogoChef co-founder Dan Strougo 99designs’ Country Manager for Brazil. But that’s not all – we’ve also launched so our Brazilian customers and designers can interact in Portuguese, have access to local support, and make financial transactions in Brazilian real. Dan, a long-time graphic designer and entrepreneur, will oversee the new site and our expansion efforts from Rio de Janeiro. Our CEO, Patrick Llewellyn is celebrating with Dan in São Paulo this week ahead of his talk on Thursday at The Next Web Conference Latin America.

If you’ve been following 99designs’ recent internationalization efforts, you know we’ve been quite busy! A year ago we made our first acquisition with the purchase of European creative marketplace 12Designer, established our European headquarters in Berlin, and subsequently rolled out versions of 99designs in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. We also made our first foray into Latin America with the launch of Spanish-language sites in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Chile.

Brazil has been a key part of our international growth plan from the start, and so we’re thrilled to be setting up shop there and adding a sixth language to our spectrum of sites. In conjunction with the introduction of, 99designs has partnered with Startup Circuit Brazil to provide special promotions for its members. Startup Circuit organizes dozens of networking events annually in cities across Brazil to bring together entrepreneurs, startups, investors and accelerators – if you want to be involved in the country’s burgeoning startup scene, we encourage you to check it out.

For full details on our LogoChef acquisition and Brazilian site launch, you can read our press release here.

We haven’t solely focused on expanding our international footprint this year, however. We’ve also been working hard to make 99designs a platform that meets the full range of our customers’ design needs, and to create more opportunities for designers. You may have noticed that we recently redesigned our website and made it responsive, so it’s easier for customers and designers to to use whether you happen to be on your smartphone, tablet or computer. We introduced our Pro Tools Suite to allow customers to run highly customized contests, have big plans underway for enhancing our 1-to-1 Projects offering, and just last week introduced a new site and service for small design tasks called Swiftly.

We’d love to hear from you about how we’re doing. Where in the world do you want us to go next? What do you think of our new services? Let us know in the comments!
