Necesidades de diseño
The book is 6x9 format. The photo I've uploaded of the author is just a placeholder. I'll have a headshot taken in the next several weeks. What I'll need is an idea I can manipulate in InDesign so I can tweak the text and move things around a bit on Ingram's template. Because the book is meant for closeted people, it can't be too flashy looking. Gay pride colors are ok if they're small/subdued/used sparingly or metaphorically. I've attached a design I made that was rejected by my book coach and I agree with her. She doesn't like the white background for the cover and said the word "Gay" was hard to read as a thumbnail on Amazon. The drawing was amateur (that's me!). So I've decided to put this out to a pro. Don't get stuck on my idea, just showing you one attempt. The best examples of the style I'm looking for are Malcolm Gladwell books. He always has a simple image that acts as a metaphor for the book and a clean title with a nice background. That's what I'm going for here. I will want the rights to be able to use the design elements for all forms of this book (e-book, physical, and audio).
Lo que debe evitarse
As I mentioned above, avoid a cover that's "LOUD". Anything that screams "Gay!" from across the room won't be a book these people will want to leave on the coffee table or read on the train. There will be an E-Book and Audio Book as well so people will have options besides the physical book but I don't want the cover to scare away very conservative readers.
