I'm in need of a Kindle digital book cover for my latest novella, "Back on the Road." The story takes place in 1983, and involves three friends--all recent college graduates--who go on a cross country road trip (from Illinois to California) inspired by Jack Kerouac's book, "On the Road." Each of the three friends has a different reason for going on the road trip, and after a couple of weeks, the cracks in their friendship begin to show. Full of adventure and crazy antics, "Back on the Road" looks at society's expectation of newly minted college grads, and what happens to those who choose to ignore the well-trod path into adulthood, preferring instead to forge their own path.
For the cover, I'd like something that connotes a road trip (map, compass, roadway, etc.), and that also has a 1980's vibe (bright colors, technology-inspired graphics, art (80s) deco, Memphis design, etc.. Think early Madonna meets Miami Vice). If you can work in something Kerouac-related, all the better. Use your imagination. I'm open to anything that works.
Required Design Specs:
This is from the Kindle website:
Dimensions: Requirements for the size of your cover art must have an ideal height/width ratio of at least 8:5 (1.6), meaning:
• A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side
• For best quality, your image should be 2500 pixels on the longest side
Size: Your cover image must be less than 50MB. If the file type you are using supports compression, make sure to enable as little compression as possible, e.g. none for TIFF. Be sure to save your file with 72 dots per inch (dpi).
Color: Product images display on the Amazon website using the RGB (red, green, blue) color mode or profile. RGB is the color mode native to the web and many color screen displays, as these three colors displayed at varying levels of intensity create over 16 million colors. When saving and uploading your cover image file, save your file ONLY as RGB - not CMYK or sRGB- for the color profile. You can usually find this option in the File saving dialog of image manipulation programs such as Photoshop.
