Descripción del libro
Abby Henderson has lived her whole life under a dark cloud. When she was born, a demon called the Deacon claimed her family as his property. When she turned 13, she was traumatized by an ominous psychic vision. When she turned 14, her dad had a psychotic breakdown and tried to kill her.
She’s just turned 25, and now people are dying all around her.
This is all according to the Deacon’s plan. He believes that Abby is the key to a ritual that will unleash an ancient evil on the world, and he will stop at nothing to make sure that ritual succeeds. Now, Abby is in the fight for her life against an enemy that defies all reason. Together with her pious girlfriend, her magic-slinging former English teacher, and a hotheaded Amazon with a machete, Abby will have to use every trick in the book to outlast the Deacon and his minions. Because if she can’t, her next birthday is going to be Hell.
Público al que se apunta
The target audience for the book is adult readers interested in dark or urban fantasy (think Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London, or TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Constantine). The book will likely also appeal to LGBTQ audiences because it features an LGBTQ protagonist, and readers in Vancouver or elsewhere in Canada because it's a Vancouver-set and Vancouver-produced work.

Diseño de inspiración
I like the minimalist design here, and the colour contrast between the text and the imagery. There's not empty space here; there's clean and tidy space.
The abstract design here really caught my eye. Very stylized.
I love the design here. It's minimalist, but you can tell what it is straightaway. The colour contrast is also excellent.
I love the cover designs for this series as a general rule. The use of colours is great, and the designs aren't too cluttered. There's stuff going on in this cover, but it's balanced by a lot of blank space, and the map text is small and off-centre so it's not a main focus.

Necesidades de diseño
I want a design that's not too busy, but that can quickly tell the reader what they need to know. I want something that combines a sense of otherworldly weirdness with urban darkness. 'Dark' and 'weird' are the operative words, so neutral tones like blacks and blues are very welcome. However, I'm comfortable with contrasting tones of red (in conversation with more neutral hues) if that's where your mind goes.
Show me more of the scenery and less of the people. Show me the borderlands between the Pacific Northwestern metropolis and the world of spirits and demons.
Lo que debe evitarse
I think a lot of self-published urban fantasy on Amazon kind of looks the same. For that reason, I don't want to see stock photos of pretty people looking magical and gritty. As a matter of fact, try to avoid stock photos entirely if you can. I want to see original art!
This is Vancouver, the city I live in and the city where the book is set. I'd love if you could show me some of this in your design (even just a silhouette!)
This is what happens to my city when it gets foggy. I feel like Vancouver fog at night can make things a little spooky.
Another shot of the city in the fog. Bonus points here for making a silhouette out of the skyline. If you're starting to get a feeling that I like silhouettes and spooky fog, you're on the right track!
I don't need or want a lot of focus on the look of the main character, but this is a visual shorthand if you're tempted: short, brightly-dyed hair; tattoos; a more androgynous figure.
