"Dead Air" is a book about a news case that spirals out of control.
David Docherty is a unconfident twenty-something news reporter that is given the chance to finally anchor the news. He's not doing great but he's getting back. One day there is a shooting at a local mall. The station gets a call from a witness who, at the time, is not in harms way. The witness is a 22 year old girl and as the call progresses, the situation gets more dangerous. The girl is scared and doesn't want to get off the call, even when the shooter comes into her store.
The audio of the shooting of the girl on live TV captivates the nation and David and the girl's family both become minor celebrities. The story is how they deal with that fame and the terrible side effects of such attention and focus on people who never wanted to be noticed that way.
It's a story of fame, celebrity, death and grief. It's part thriller, part heavy drama.
**This is a story about the girl, David, the girl's family, etc. not just the guy. Hope that helps with the covers!**
It's not a thriller but it's not a super literary fiction book either. The focus shouldn't be too heavy on the news reporter aspect unless you have a great idea to incorporate that. I'm not sure how to focus this design--use your instincts!
Not necessarily needing a person on the cover. A more abstract cover is also good!
