Every chapter includes powerful exercises, insights, and perspective from a captivating new voice in spirituality. Teal’s resonating words sit with your soul long after you put this book down, and show you the way to complete self-love, no matter who you are or where you are in life.
Teal Swan, known to many as “The Spiritual Catalyst” or “The Giggling Guide,” was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on June 16, 1984, with a range of extrasensory abilities including clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, and claircognizance. During her childhood, Teal’s parents, both wilderness rangers, accepted a job in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest of Utah, unaware of the intensely religious climate of the location. Teal’s unusual abilities were not only frowned upon but also feared by many in the local religious community. They attracted the attention of a family acquaintance who inducted her into a local cult, where she was ritualistically tortured for 13 years. Teal managed to escape from the cult at age 19 and began her process of recovery and transformation. She now travels the world as a spiritual luminary, using her abilities to remind people of the united, energetic nature of this universe and teaching them how to find bliss and profound self-love in even the most difficult challenges. Teal’s core audience is 15 to 35 years old, both male and female, and she will also resonate with a large demographic of women ages 45 to 65 with Hay House. She believes this book will appeal especially to women with low self-esteem who struggle with self-love, but the book is also geared toward, in her words, “serious self-haters, people like cutters and addicts. And because it is designed for the hardest cases, everyone with more simple cases will see instant improvement.”
In her in-person workshops, Teal works with people who struggle with extreme self-hate; as both an exceptionally gifted clairvoyant and survivor of horrible abuse, she understands the depths of this darkness and can reach these people and guide them to self-love. She is admittedly, in her words, a “controversial figure, drawing in both staunch devotees and avid haters,” and also has a large following internationally.
Ideas for Cover Image/Treatment:
Teal’s core demographic is younger people (15-35) who struggle with dark emotions—something edgier, compelling, and gender neutral (so please no hearts, pastels, etc.) will work best.
1. The Remembering the Future cover, above, has some of the edginess we’re looking for, and—if we go this direction—incorporates her photo in an usual and unobtrusive way. Maybe Teal’s photo could be used, but with her face all or partly in shadow, as a play on the title. (A bit like the Brain on Fire memoir in the comp titles.)
2. We also like the idea of the cover having a gradation of dark to light, or perhaps a light coming through the dark, to capture the essence of the subtitle, “Finding the Light of Self-Love Through Your Darkest Times.” Or perhaps an image that literally represents dawn/predawn.
3. Finally, we included the Brené Brown Daring Greatly book in the comps because we like the powerful type treatment; maybe the light-to-dark theme could even be conveyed through the type.
I attached images and formal design memo.
