Hi there – thank you for working on a cover for me! I’m really looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
When I think of my cover, the image that comes to mind is:
My main character Clara and her friend Rob, underground in a large cavern beneath the hillside, standing before a gigantic window which overlooks the outside. This large window is composed of smaller hexagons, as in a bee’s nest.
Outside, through the window, they see only a bare landscape dotted with boulders and shadowy shapes. Toxic blue (sparkly) ash covers the ground. In the distance is a line of orange (toxic) sea. Dawn is glimmering, tangerine and, perhaps, cerise. It’s an uncannily beautiful, but frightening landscape. Clara and Rob look shocked and scared.
Clara: Twelve years old, tomboy, long brown hair, green eyes.
Rob: Thirteen, well-built, strong and brave, fox-red bristly hair.
They could be silhouetted if it leaves more to the imagination. Please feel free to explore your own ideas!
In case it helps, this quote refers to the scene:
The three of them arrived at the hexagonal windows. Close up, they were huge, each one was big enough to contain a van. They fitted together to form one gently curving slope against the side of the cavern.
Clara peered through the glass. All she could see were shadowy shapes in the darkness, at the back of which was a glowing line, like a hot copper needle.
“Where are we?” asked Clara. “Have we reached the outside? It doesn’t make sense.”
The third person mentioned is an old man, but I thought it might complicate things to include him here. Please feel free to run any ideas by me if my suggestion is impractical for any reason.
