Descripción del libro
This is book 1 of a 2 part series. I would like to hire the contest winner to design the cover for book 2 if possible. It is a Christian adventure allegory written for adults. The main character finds himself in a strange country that seems like paradise, where there is a beautiful forest, a golden city, and an orchard full of all kinds of delicious fruit. This place is called the Lowlands. He is warned to watch out for dangerous people from the high country. But one day a little girl comes and invites him to the high country, claiming there is someone there who can show him his way back home to his family. So despite the warnings, he makes the perilous journey to go there. But he finds he is unable to escape the "paradise," and has to figure out why. During book 1, a woman who was trying to rescue the MC ends up being taken captive in the lowlands, and book 2 is about the MC and several friends going as a group to rescue her. The title of that book is At War with the Wind.
Público al que se apunta
Adult Christian adventure and fantasy readers (adventure more than fantasy though). The book will also appeal to Christian nonfiction readers who are interested in a detailed theological allegory.

Necesidades de diseño
A major theme in the story has to do with colors. At the beginning of the story, the MC sees an old, ramshackle cottage off in the distance with very striking colors shooting out from it. For the whole rest of the book, he is trying to make his way to that cabin to discover what causes those lights. This is an excerpt from the opening scene of the book: “He caught his breath. In the distance, purple, red, and yellow rays shot upward. And there were other colors—colors he had never seen. They were rising from … Hey—that’s a building!” I’m definitely open to ideas, but one idea I have in mind is a man standing in a beautiful forest, facing in the direction of a dark, dangerous-looking sky. But off in the distance is a little cabin with striking colors shooting out from it. My complaints are as follows: 1) Kind of a boring picture. And the man strikes me as a little unrealistic. 2) Doesn't fit the story. There is no floating island or castle or staircase. 3. I like this one, but instead of conveying the beginning of a great adventure, it looks like he might be considering suicide. Also, it's not very colorful. 4. Some friends said this one strikes them as looking like a nonfiction book. On thing I like about it is that in the story the lowlands are covered by a dark cloud that no one knows about until they get above it.
Lo que debe evitarse
I would like to convey the idea of a man trying to escape from a paradise, but it is not a tropical paradise. No ocean or palm trees. It's a beautiful forest with orchards of fruit trees. The fruit plays a very big role in the story (the MC is unable to escape because of how much he desires the fruit. He only escapes when he finally goes to the high country and feasts at the Ruler's banquet there. The whole reason for writing the book is to dramatize that idea that the way to escape bondage to something (a habit, addiction, etc.) is by developing an appetite for something better--the "feast" that God offers. I've attached 4 cover ideas that I've considered but rejected.
