Jill Brown grew up in a small fishing town on the coast of Oregon which helped to inspire the picturesque setting for the town of Sandy Cove. She was later lucky enough to reside in scenic southwestern Virginia, artistic Santa Fe, New Mexico, tourist-driven Niagara Falls, New York, and bustling Greensboro, North Carolina.
Currently she and her family live in a cozy village nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Amherst County, Virginia. She spends her time teaching at a local college and volunteering in the community.

From the center of The Avenue Evelyn could see to the south, a surf-shop where brightly colored boards leaned up against the building, and a candy store window which displayed an abundance sugary delights in an amazing assortment of colors and flavors. To the north a long white two-story building, was home to a kite shop, with several large kites to decorate the balcony that ran the length of the building."
