In his first book, Nicholas Cohen has remastered and extended his popular LobbySeven Commentary. Mixing a deep understanding of policy, history and mathematics with a dose of humor, he hopes to teach the basics to everybody.
Nick has a degree in theoretical mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with a concentration in American History. He spent fifteen years working on Wall Street, trading derivatives.
Descripción del libro
Fake news. Alternative facts. Ideological agendas. How do you tell the difference between true and false? How do you know what it all means?
In Actually, It’s Not Easy, novices and experts alike can grow their ability to understand complex topics in today’s world. A consistent, analytical approach results in an understandable context useful for solving problems. Timely subjects like health reform and tax policy blend with voyages into probability theory and the history of totalitarian coups. These topics, perhaps arcane at the start, achieve clarity and consequence on their way to an often-surprising thesis. Only by accepting – perhaps even enjoying – the complexity of these topics, can we hope to achieve sturdy solutions to the problems faced by our society.
Público al que se apunta
Typically, Americans, aged 25-45. I wouldn't expect any gender differential. It probably appeals more to a cosmopolitan audience, probably leaning left. I expect to have a lot of technical readers exploring a new field, e.g. a physicist who wants to learn about health economics.

I'm looking for a simple and classic design for my book, which is a collection of essays on policy, history, economics and mathematics. I'd like something that is simple and clean, memorable (or course), but that also takes the topic seriously. This book comes out of a blog (and my larger consulting firm). I've attached the firm's brand guide to give you an idea. I'd love to re-use colors, and it gives a sense of my style.
Lo que debe evitarse
