MURDER IN MONTAGUE FALLS is an anthology of 3 teen-led, suspense/thriller novellas. All the stories are set in the same fictional northeast U.S. suburban town (so do NOT show mountains, fields, beaches, or deserts).
The mood of the front cover should be dark, ominous, dangerous.
One concept we had in mind was a bullet-riddled town road sign/billboard (see pic for an example) with the book’s title, adorned with a spray-painted pentagram on the sign; scattered (dead?) roses in front of it; and either a stack of newspapers spattered with blood near it or a single blood-spattered newspaper page wrapped around the signpost. **This is one idea we have; you are welcome to try another design(s) based on details in this brief.**
We strongly prefer you don’t use stock images, but if you do please make sure they are FREE use and can be used for commercial purposes.
We need both a version for the ebook (front cover only), and a full cover version for the print edition (front cover + back and spine).
For the print edition, the back cover text will read (italicize story titles):
WHITE HOT THRILLS! PITCH BLACK DEEDS!
3 Tales of Teens Tackling
Their Darkest Rites of Passage
Acclaimed storytellers Russ Colchamiro, Sawney Hatton, and Patrick Thomas each present an original novella brimming with enough danger, intrigue, and murder to get readers’ blood pounding and hearts racing.
In Colchamiro’s Red Ink, a paperboy with an overactive imagination witnesses a brutal killing on his route—or has he taken his fantasy spy games a step too far?
In Hatton’s The Devil’s Delinquents, a trio of teenage misfits in pursuit of success, power, and revenge practice amateurish occult rituals... with deadly consequences.
In Thomas’s A Many Splendid Thing, a sultry high school teacher enrolls one of her students to get rid of her husband. But will the young man really graduate to murder?
"Murder in Montague Falls contains three wonderfully dangerous journeys into the world of death and betrayal. So sit back and enjoy the ride."
--John L. French, author of The Last Redhead
The look of the back cover should blend well with the front. Also add the CRAZY 8 PRESS full logo and the barcode (inside crazy8press.com barcode box), both on the bottom. (Barcode should be 2" wide and 1.2” tall; at least 300 dpi; not flattened into main cover as one single image.)
Size of print book will be 5.5" X 8.5"
Spine: I am not yet sure of the page count, so let's estimate 250 pages. This means you should design the spine to be .563" in width (250 multiplied by 0.002252); this will most likely have to be adjusted when we determine the final page count.
The spine should include the book's title “MURDER IN MONTAGUE FALLS" and (if it fits) “Colchamiro * Hatton * Thomas” + the Crazy 8 logo.
The full cover will be delivered to the printer as a single PDF that includes the back cover, spine, and front cover as one image. (Flatten all layers in the native file, EXCEPT barcode.)
The printable area must be:
--Measured exactly to the book's trim size, spine width, and .125" bleed (bleed of .125” is required on all sides. The bleed at the bottom of the page must not exceed .125”; there should be no "live" elements within .25” of the trim lines.)
--Centered horizontally and vertically
--300 dpi image resolution. Higher resolutions are acceptable.
Cover Width: Bleed + Back Cover Trim Size + Spine Width + Front Cover Trim Size + Bleed (in this case= 11.813")
Cover Height: Bleed + Book Height Trim Size + Bleed (in this case= 8.75")
From the winning designer I would like a jpg of the front cover, a pdf of the full cover, and the graphic files you used to create it (preferably in Photoshop or Illustrator)
If you have any questions, please ask. Have fun!
