The book is an fantasy-adventure for readers from age 14 and up. Think „Indiana Jones“ meets „Lord of the Rings“ – a treasure hunt on an mysterious volcanic island. The cover should communicate a sense of adventure and mystery – of old, lost civilizations and dungeons full of traps.
For the image itself, I have three possibilities in mind:
I think the island, lonely in the sea, could be a striking image – in the foreground we see an elizabethan-style sailing ship, which steers to the island. Maybe there a somes ornaments to the sides of the cover, like ancient stone pillars with ancient symbols on them. More important is the sense of adventure, of exploring, of awaiting wonders and dangers.
We could see our hero, an elven boy of about 15 years, exploring a moody ancient dungeon, a dagger and a torch in hands. There a cobwebs and menacing shadows everywhere, our hero is moving careful, afraid of traps. It should communicate the theme of exploring the remnants of lost civilizations.
The same elven boy (see above) moves through a menacing jungle. Maybe there a human silhouettes in the trees – hunters, coming to get him. His clothes are battered, he holds a saber, ready to fight. It should evoke a sense of exploring forbidden places.
Hereʼs a more detailed description of our hero:
- around 15 years of age
- pale skin
- pointed ears
- green eyes
- brown hair
- kind, but tough. A thief by trade
- the clothes a peasant-like: a simple woolen shirt and trousers, a leather backpack, leather boots. Battered, used. No flashy colors.
As everything else the font should spell „fantasy“ and „adventure“ at first glance.
The cover should fit an 5" x 8" Createspace paperback or a standard ebook-cover.
