Shelley Crockett began her career in the entertainment industry, where social media was pioneered, and moved across sectors working in marketing and advertising for two decades. Her intimate view into social media advertising and big data inspired her to write CODE 44, a suspense novel that probes how technological innovations disrupt society at its deepest core.

Descripción del libro
Code 44 is a psychological suspense thriller set in the near future at a time when people are taking neural implants known as “chips.” Marketed as a medical device that will prevent disease and provide health benefits using bio-electric medicine, the chip, inserted into the forehead, also tracks everything we see and do. In the Internet of Things, the chip cures disease, creates any virtual reality we desire and conveniently debits our bank accounts. An underground resistance group has discovered the government’s secret plan to hack into citizens’ brains via the chip and control their thoughts. The Underground recruits Nick Winston, a high-ranking tech whiz, to go undercover in the government's new agency BrainShare.Gov and expose the plot.
Code 44 explores the potential consequences of the singularity - where man and machine merge- and how the subtle erosion of a free society creates a fight between individual privacy and the national good.
Público al que se apunta
People who like suspense thrillers. Anyone interested in tech as well and enjoys suspense thrillers. It's not sci-fi, as it's a very real world as we know it but just set in the near future, but I think it will have cross-over appeal to those who like sci-fi and shows like Mr. Robot and Black Mirror.

I want it to say psychological suspense.
I want the title to be big enough where it will read well if seen as a small thumbnail on Amazon.
I like the idea of including an eye giving off the effect that big brother is watching us and recording what we do through these neural implants. At the same time, I don’t want it to look sci-fi, but look more like a high concept book cover. I'm also open to not using an eye and doing something totally different.
I am open to a completely different design or something out of the box as well- you guys are the designers.
I’d like something that stands out. I thought Dark Matter by Blake Crouch was a good book cover (the orange one with Dark Matter repeating itself) as it grabs your attention and how the words fades out actually speaks to the overall theme of confusion in that book.
The general theme in my novel is about being under surveillance everywhere you go all the time (and our minds being controlled by this chip in our brain) – so if there is a way to bring that through, that’s great.
I attached some rough designs I did in Canva (I"m clearly not a designer) to give a sense of mood. Feel free to play with them or preferably do something totally original!
I’m open to any color scheme, but something that feels high concept and pops off the page. I was playing with white, and also black and reddish/orange as you can see in my basic canva designs.
I’m a new author, so my name doesn’t need to be prominent. The title should be prominent.
Lo que debe evitarse
I don't like cheesy designs. I don't like a man running. I don't like too much going on. I like simple, high concept, striking design that makes you to pick up the book. I also want it to imply the tone of the novel (creep factor but not creepy horror or sci-fi).
