A creative, endearing book cover design for a book about preventing birth defects. This cover will need to project a positive image (i.e., a happy, healthy baby or mother/baby pair, and not include a baby showing a birth defect). The target audience is the expectant mother, as well as the health care professional who wants to review the science covering the subject of birth defect prevention. The focus of the book is on the harm caused by both maternal iodine deficiency and thyroid dysfunction. The book is written in an entertaining, conversational style. The overall book design needs to look a little sophisticated but without the look of a scholarly book (this can be boring). I want an image on the cover that is lively and able to evoke the thought "I want this outcome! I want a happy, healthy baby." An example of a book cover design that met this criteria is the book cover for Mommy, Me, and Vitamin D (file placed below by way of example). This design was the outcome of a 99Design contest earlier this year. It is to serve as an example of the degree of sophistication and beauty required to win this contest, and is not to be imitated.
