Michael L. Jernigan is a United States Marine that was blinded by a roadside bomb in Iraq on August 22nd 2004. He had 45% of his cranium crushed and suffered severe damage to his right hand and left knee. Michael went through 30 major surgeries in the first 12 months of his recovery and spent 16 months in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities before being medically retired from the Marine Corps.
Since being wounded Michael has met and married his wife Leslie. He has also gone back to college and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of South Florida in the spring of 2012. Since graduating from college Michael has started as a Community Outreach Coordinator at Southeastern Guide Dogs. Michael has also been featured in the HBO Documentary Alive Day with James Gandolfini and been a contributing writer for the New York Times online blog Home Fires. He has remained active in veteran affairs by representing blind veterans and bringing awareness to the trials faced by our service members that have returned home wounded.
Michael is transitioning into full time public & motivational speaking and needs a book cover for his new book that is just as recognizable as him. Something professional and powerful that both encourages and represents hope and resiliency.
Target audiences are companies, organizations, institutions and high profile events and television networks.

The trim on my book is 6” x 9”. I would like a solid black cover. In the upper right corner I would like to see a door that is opening. I would like to see light flooding into the blackness as if this were the door to enlightenment. I would also like to see a cobblestone path that starts in the lower right corner and leads to the door. I would like both the door and path to be in a very dark grey/charcoal. Think of a muted black that would be visible on gloss black. I would like the title and tag line of the book just to the right of the opening door. The light from the door will make the title visible in the darkness.
The Title is Vision and the tag line is Strength and Success in the Face of Adversity. I would like to see the word Vision in all Capital block letters and the tagline underneath the title. On the bottom of the cover I would like it to read, By Michael Jernigan. I would also like this part to be the same muted black as the door and path.
Book size = 6x9 in
