The cover tech specs are attached. The dimensions are 7-1/8 inches wide by 9 inches tall. The spine is 1 inch wide by 9 inches tall. All copy, images, and other graphics must be at least ¼ inch from each edge, i.e., there must be a ¼-inch clear area around the outside edge of the cover. We will need the final files supplied as complete InDesign files (we are currently working with the Adobe Creative Cloud), and a pdf file.
This book is about choices we make that can lead to fatal illnesses like cancer, stroke, and heart disease and conditions such as chronic pain, depression, dementia, stress, obesity, severe allergies, or injuries. The chapter titles are: Your Deadly Daily Routine, Malevolent Matters of Mind, Dietary Dangers, Fearsome Food Fallacies, The Fatal Fat Factor, Diabolical Diseases, Crippling Chronic Pain, Menacing Maladies, Your Autopilot Gone Awry, Housekeeping Horrors, Insidious Invaders, Pretty…But Perilous, and Outdoor Pitfalls.
In a problem-solution format, each chapter presents the relevant dangers, described in tips and boxes with eye-catching, ripped-from-the-headlines titles, along with fast, fun, and easy tips for solving or preventing problems and treating ailments. Examples include: The Lethal Low-Fat Fable, What You Don’t Eat Will Do You In, and 4 Vicious Vitamin Deficiencies.
The book is written in non-narrative format with information provided in short individual paragraphs. There are a fair amount of interior graphics in the form of repeating sidebars. See the attached sample chapter for the layout and design.
Because we sell our books by direct mail (not retail), our customers definitely “judge the book by its cover” when deciding to order it. So they have to be excited when they initially see it advertised, excited when they receive it in the mail, and excited when they read and use the how-to hints.
So we’re looking for a bright, bold cover that grabs our customers’ attention and gets them excited about the experience. It must have a high perceived value while reflecting that the information inside is solid, credible and can be trusted.
The cover must be 4/C and have a banner or the words “A Jerry Baker Good Health Book” at or near the top. There is to be no photo of Jerry and no author listed. The title is obviously the most important and prominent element, with the subtitle secondary. Graphics and design elements
