I wrote a book called You Be the Judge: A Common Sense Approach to Nutrition. It's about making sense of all the confusing food advice we hear every day. The book's goal is to make the reader see that he or she is the expert on his or her own nutrition - that we don't need to look to "experts" when our own body, in particular our digestive symptoms, will tell us which foods work for or against us. For example, the experts may say that green peppers are a super food, but if they give you heart burn you know to move on to other foods. I recommend that people keep a food journal to keep track of digestive distress in order to link it to specific foods. I try to have a little fun with the subject by putting the info into the context of the legal system (because I'm a lawyer) and I put the top foods on "trial". So we examine the potential health pros or cons of meat, dairy, grains, sugar, etc. which I call "The Usual Suspects". I also talk about some additional foods like coffee, diet soda, and energy drinks which I put into a category called "The Accomplices". At the end of each food discussion I have a paragraph called "The Verdict" which sums up the info and makes a conclusion regarding the health benefit or risk of that food. I found a picture of a scale that reminds me of the Scales of Justice. On one side is an apple and on the other there is what might be a fast food hamburger. It might be nice to include this image somewhere because it really sums up what I'm doing - weighing food choices within the theme of the legal system. I have attached a link below to the stock image as well as a link to my book on Amazon. I'm planning to create a series of books and the next one I write will probably be titled You Be The Judge: A Common Sense Approach to Vitamins and Supplements.
