We wrote a book, "The Good Don," showing how, in order to survive the Depression, people did what they had to do. Some people became very discouraged while others who were particularly tough and fortunate, were still able to find success, despite the struggles. Our target audience is people between the ages of 40 and 80 who are interested in the Depression era and how people survived it. Particularly people interested in that time in New York or who grew up there during that era.
¿Qué te inspira y qué diseño imaginas para tu empresa?
We want the design to be an original illustration that reflects the neighborhood between the two bridges in New York — the Manhattan Bridge to the north and the Brooklyn Bridge to the south — as it appeared in the 1930s. In the background, we would like the 3rd Avenue El train, then in the foreground, we should see the East River, including the docks. Right off of the docks, we should see the three-and-four-story buildings along the waterfront area, many of them with Dutch or Old English design. Between those buildings and the train, we would see the six-story tenement buildings coming up from the ground. In the image, we want to be looking toward the west. Off of the Brooklyn Bridge, we would see the city Municipal Building, as well as other skyscrapers of that era, including 50 Wall Street.
The photos attached give an idea what the tenement housing looked like as well as the 3rd Avenue El and the docks in the area between the two bridges.
MESSAGE TO DESIGNERS:
Please keep in mind that the photos attached are meant only for inspiration and visual reference. Client would like original artwork for the cover, not just these photos combined to form a collage. Please feel free to research additional 1930s New York photographs for further reference. Thank you for your time and effort!
