I want an 80s retro and hand-drawn artwork cover that is mysterious and creepy and catches your eye immediately (even as a thumbnail) like the 80s covers of Stephen King novels or horror movie posters of that time (see the image examples). It also has to have a good contrast even in black and white. Better work without stock images if you can.
My idea is something like this: A big white gloved hand (a clown glove) is grabbing for the 11 year old boy – dark brown hair, wearing a hoody sweatshirt and jeans (80s-like clothing), representing the boy in the book who is similar to Elliot from E.T. or like some of the boys from the tv series Stranger Things) . The hand comes out of the background, you see the boy from behind and he seems to have no clue that the hand is grabbing for him.
Or: The boy is standing on one or two gloved hands, like someone watches him on his hands like an animal, you see the boy from behind.
Or/and: wide opened blue bloodshot eyes (reddish, like an alcoholic) that stare at the boy.
There must be something creepy, mysterious and threatening. But no horror.
It can be surreal in a way. Or be like a nightmare. Fear should play a role and dependence (that establishes after something really bad happened).
You should work with black, white and grey. Shadows, light. But not only.
See the images for inspiration.
MORPIT should be placed in big letters. Please use old retro 80s fonts – and, if it is possible – that would make me really happy – use the font: "ITC Benguiat" in Pro bold or pro book. It is a very popular 80s font that would fit perfectly. Maybe the name of the author can be placed on the lower part and in a different style and without serifs. The back cover can also show creepy shadow elements or things like that, but maybe not on the spine area.
The book has the size 5"x8", spine width measures and further infos are in the attached pdf-document. Colors RGB (digital) and CMYK (print).
