-I will be using BookBaby's softcover trim size of 5.5 x 8.5
-Barcode space holder should be 2 x 1.2 inches
-Spine will be approximately 1 inch
Please include a back cover and spine so I can see how you synergize these elements.
Is lighthearted deep mystery. I have recommended white and black, but I also encourage the use of colors to help convey the lighthearted part of the mood.
MOST IMPORTANT PART:
A major piece of the cover that should stand out should be a point of darkness about the size of a quarter (American currency 25 cent coin). This point of darkness radiates darkness outward, about 10 feet for scale. The source of the darkness is a gem that cannot be seen within the shadow it radiates.
The darkness dissipates the further it gets from the gem. The darkness acts like light and can be blocked by objects.
The best example I have is that it is like a light shining through fog, only reverse the light into darkness. Attached is a picture of a lighthouse that I created a negative of that demonstrates this. The picture is only an example of the desired effect I want.
1. The darkness can “shine” through cracks or windows.
2. If you put this gem in a flashlight where the lightbulb would go, it would radiate a shadow beam instead of light.
3. If a character held it in their fist, then cracked open a part of their hand, they would have a ray of darkness and shadow coming from the crack.
A lighter background might have to be used to showcase the gem’s darkness. This fits with the mood. Darkness radiating from the point where the gem is at is mysterious of itself and a lighter background will help with the lighthearted aspect of my story.
I'm interested in seeing what kind of creativity comes from this. I'm leaving this generally open to creativity, so the rest of this description will be to simply guide those creative choices. The following are optional.
Hands can be an element to include. Eyes as well. Hands help cement the idea that there is something within the darkness that is an object. As for eyes, looking into the gem creates certain effects on the person gazing at it, so eyes have a stronger relation to the gem than usual.
If the image of a person is involved, it should be a young male and have black hair.
If clothing is visible it should be middle eastern in nature.
If landscape is involved it should be mountainous with greenery, plants and trees. Most of the book takes place in this kind of terrain.
If architecture is involved, it should be traditional middle eastern in style and be either be ornate and lavish or commonplace. A prime example for the ornate and lavish would be The Nasir Al-Mulk Mosque, picture attached for reference. Commonplace architecture should follow the same basic style, but be made from wood, logs and timber.
"Some mysteries are too deep to understand. Even if it's in your hand."
This is just here for additional inspiration and direction.
