I have composed two other best sellers in the military/veteran genre. That is my current audience. The protagonist in this book is a veteran but that is not the focus. This work speaks in a more philosophical tone told through the narrative of travel.

I need something that displays the simple complexities of this work. At the surface this is a true story about a former army ranger medic who saw heavy combat in Iraq and Afghanistan selling everything he owns and traveling the world (28 countries on 5 continents). The journey begins with him stowing away on and old coal train.
There is parallel character analogy being told of the story of Icarus (The kid who flew too close to the sun on makeshift wings, they melted and he fell into the sea and drown)
The protagonist struggles with isolation and alcoholism, while attempting to find his place in the world.
This work has the free spirited travel element of Kerouac's "On the Road" mixed with similar isolation and minimalist philosophies of Thoreau's "Walden" written in the style of my last book, "On Assimilation" (which deals entirely with the issues veterans face when they return from combat)
I want you to get creative but I do not want a lot of clutter. Less is more. Be powerful.
Train travel (tracks??)
purging all material possession in favor of experience
Combat veteran assimilation
