The title of the book is Grief. (I'm not planning to do a subtitle.) The first part of the book is a collection of letters written during grief, and the second part is reflections on grief. It's for two groups: people who are grieving and for the people around them (which is just about everybody).
The book is an honest look at what grief does -- it makes up feel like down; it isolates; it exposes all the places you've wall-papered over; and it raises scary who-am-I questions. Because grief is so undoing, it has the potential to be the most fruitful time of your life. But it takes courage to grieve well. You need permission, because the culture tells you to get back to business as usual and because, on the darkest days, you lose hope.
I envision the cover uncluttered and simple. I envision the book being small -- 5 by 7 or so. I want a cover that speaks both of how hard grief is and of how fruitful it can be. I'm attaching a photo (mine) that I think works, but don't feel wedded to it.
