I've written a book entitled:
"Don't Make Beats Like Me: 24 Powerful Laws To Guide You Towards Success As a Music Producer" by Chris "MayDay" Rucks
The book is geared towards music producers and beat makers and places emphasis on the most important piece of equipment in a producer's studio: themselves. It's written to be timeless, thought provoking, like "the bible" of music production books.
I have quite a challenge: my target market does not read books. I must captivate them as much as possible with eye candy: a striking, beautifully designed book that feels iconic, like a great movie poster.
In terms of design, no stock images. I want the power of pure graphic design genius. I like the urgency of red with black/white (and off white) colors. Font selection is very important. I like a vintage, weathered look, like an old leather-bound book full of wisdom. If there is way to graphically incorporate imagery of music production equipment (something subtle, not blatant or obvious), that would be cool, but not essential.
It must be elegant, simple and gorgeous. Even if you don't care about music production, I'd want you to stop and look at it and thumb through it. That's the kind of design power I need.
