MORTIS is a YA (young adult) speculative genre novel about an assassin girl who decides to destroy the school that raised and taught her. Its target audience is girls about thirteen to eighteen, and homeschooling parents who might be looking for a positive read for their kids.
I have attached a sketch for a possible book cover idea, although if you have other ideas please feel free to explore them. The repeating images in the story are a chessboard (chess pieces), swords, and a black rose. I am delighted to answer questions if you wish for more clarification. Write to me at email@example.com
The characters shown in the sketch are the three main characters. The girl has dark hair and hides many weapons through her hair and clothing. The guard-like student standing behind the girl has light brown hair and blue eyes, and wears a uniform that is grey with purple. The character holding the sword is blond and dresses in an aristocratic fashion. There is another main character, a tall girl with flaming red hair, who enjoys wearing beautiful flamboyant dresses. She has a boyfriend who is dark-haired and wears the same uniform as the guard-like student. All the students are attractive, about seventeen or eighteen, and carry swords.
The setting is generic rural with oil lamps, swords for weapons, stone architecture, cottages with thatched roofs, horse-drawn wagons, grain fields, grand woods, and so forth.
The author's name should read "Hannah Cobb," not H Cobb as shown on the sketch.
I will need access to any fonts you use since I will need to do the spine and back of the book cover. I would like the final product to be in a layered format file as well as jpeg (or else two jpegs, one with writing, one without). If you wish to do a small design for the spine and/or the back cover, I would like to consider this and will pay extra if it seems to be a good fit.
The cover must look good as a thumbnail as well as full size.
I must have all rights outright to all aspects of the cover image. If you create the cover yourself this shouldn't be a problem. If you use or modify other images I must have documentation that I am free to use them as I wish.
Most of the book covers in this spec fiction YA genre show a young girl against a period setting or dramatic background. I want the cover for MORTIS to be close enough to the standard that it fits, but different enough that it stands out. See the bottom of this note for a few sample book covers in this genre -- again, I want the MORTIS cover TO BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you.
Here are some YA spec fiction covers. I want the MORTIS cover to be a little different from these, yet still be able to fit in.
