The book is about living victoriously in spite of challenging and confusing situations so I want the cover to convey grit, courage, determination, and perseverance. It should inspire those who are wanting to overcome hardship, heartache, challenges, trials, and obstacles. I want a cover that is dramatic and grabs the reader's attention. It should appeal to both men and women.
I am open to whatever design ideas you want to offer. That said, I do have some ideas that you may want to springboard from. The images I have included are suggestions only and not meant to be used. I do not own the rights to these images. I have also included a couple of book covers for inspiration as well.
I like "UNDEFEATED" in all caps in the largest font size in a grunge-style font. I like red on a dark background but I'm also open to other ideas.
Just underneath that please center "From Trial to Triumph" in title case, in a color to match main title and a regular font.
Elsewhere, please include the tagline: "How to Stop Fighting the Wrong Battles and Start Living Victoriously" (maybe in white?)
I'd like my name in all lower case near the bottom in a smaller font.
Additionally, please include a bar at the top or bottom with "STAND STRONG SERIES BOOK ONE". (in yellow or gold perhaps? Just a suggestion)
This book is the first of three. Since I want all three covers to coordinate, I am likely to choose the same designer for books 2 (UNDAUNTED) and 3 (UNSHAKABLE) as well.
What I have in mind is a mostly dark (black or a blue so dark it's almost black) background with an indication of light pushing back the dark. The light would be coming from above, perhaps with rays of some sort. The darkness would be swelling from beneath, perhaps in a smoky way as coming from a fire. Maybe a hint of red/orange fire to coordinate with the red in the main title? Instead of a fire, a dark, menacing storm in the valley might be another option to create drama.
The 2nd book would be more of a medium color (blue?) balanced between light and dark. The 3rd book will have a lighter background. Obviously, the design of books 2 and 3 will be a separate event, but I'm just letting you know my ideas in case they are helpful in planning the first cover.
I'm ONLY expecting a design for the FIRST BOOK at this point!!!
I like the idea of a rugged mountain trail crawling from a shadowy valley of fiery trials to a cliff overlook that gives a better perspective above the storm/fire that rages below but isn't quite all the way at the top yet. The mountain(s) (perhaps a very dark green that lightens near the top? or mountains/trees in silhouette by the storm/fire/light...?) reach from the dark valley stretching hopefully to the light coming from above. This is the start of a long, hard journey/climb but it's worth it. (Book 2 is the middle of the journey and Book 3 is the ultimate goal at the peak above the clouds). There might also be hints of death in the valley (dead/twisted trees) and the promise of life and hope in the peaks above.
Another obvious direction to go with this is some sort of battle metaphor like armor or a sword OR a sports victory theme. I personally couldn't come up with ideas I liked for the following two books to continue the metaphor but you are welcome to surprise me with your awesomeness! :)
The AAE logos (publisher) I have included are for the back cover and spine. Use whichever color goes best with your design.
I would like the back cover, spine, and front cover to bleed over so they appear as one continuous image when the book is open flat.
Please exercise creative and artistic freedom. You may think of something cool that didn't occur to me. I am not an artist or designer so I may like your ideas better than my own!
I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
