These stories were written in 1952 for Edith Cameron Wagner's first grandchild, Lorna Meier, who had to spend weeks in bed while recovering from an illness. Inspired by the squirrels playing in the big elm trees in her yard, the stories were begun. The names Frisky and Scampy came from two small ceramic squirrels that resided on a shelf in her living room. Grandma Edie, or Nana, as she was called, wrote a story each day to entertain her usually active seven-year-old grand-daughter.
