Requirements for the size of the cover art have an ideal height/width ratio of 1.6 translating to a minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1,000 pixels on the longest side. For best quality images should be 1,563 pixels on short side and 2,500 pixels on the long side. Print book size is 5.5 x 8.5 trade paperback. Use color images when possible using RGB color mode. Book Title, Author Name and Testimonial must appear on the front cover. Back Cover will include Synopsis, Author Bio & Photo, Publishing Logo and Barcode. For front of the book (trade paperback version only) Title: The Accidental Pilgrim Author: Stephen Kitsakos ISBN: 978-0-9961029-1-9
Though contemporary in its setting, the novel deals critically with a subject that is in itself, ancient -- a 2,000 year old boat from the time of the ministry of Christ that was discovered in 1986 on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. The Sea of Galilee or "Lake" as it is known, figures prominently in the book along with the Atlantic Maritime Provinces in Canada (Halifax and St. John) where the principal characters live and work. Images or photographs reflecting these waterways or the ancient boat might be incorporated into your design. The boat is real, by the way, and its salvaged remains are housed at the Yigal Allon Museum at Kibbutz Ginosar, outside the city of Tiberias in Northern Israel. The book combines elements of contemporary women's fiction with an archaeological mystery that borders on the supernatural. It blends a romance and suspense that is grounded in the central character, Dr. Rose Strongin, a marine biologist and agnostic atheist who has an episode of dissociative amnesia as a young scientist. As she begins to recall her memory years later she makes discoveries that may lead her to a spiritual sense of herself, if not outright acceptance of the existence of a God. Although the protagonist Rose is portrayed in the novel from age 20 to 70 (1962 to 2012) the majority of her story evolves when she is in her late 30's-early 40's. She's a tall and attractive woman with long blonde hair and striking features. She is often at the center of conflict between her husband, Simon, a Canadian-born German Jew, pleasant looking, shorter than his wife, fit and intelligent, and her colleague Dr. Noah Chazon a dark, deeply handsome Israeli with black curly hair also in his early 40's. Images/photographs of representations of these characters might be incorporated into your design. These three are all sexy. It's appealing and desirable for a reader to be attracted to any or all of these characters or drawn to the book by their allure. The book deals in “memory” and perhaps some of the images are old photos laying on a desk, a map, some sort of geographical representation. A 70’s look of Polaroid photos. These are just suggestions. The novel is categorically not Christian fiction yet some aspects of the theme and plot might appeal to readers who like biblical mysteries or stories about journeys of self-discovery, spirituality or turning to faith. Images about these things might be incorporated into the design. Things not to do: no images that invoke Christian "pilgrims or a "pilgrimage". No crucifixes or cheesy "bible" imagery. The title refers to a subtle change that happens not only to the principal character but also her husband, her colleague and perhaps lover. However if you feel the Jewish Star of David (Mogen David) might grab some attention somewhere then, perhaps, incorporate it. The main characters have all been brought up as secular Jews and the Mogen David plays a prominent plot point. Color-wise it seems like blues and browns would be a good choice if it fits with your design scheme. The idea of land and sea is prominent. Synopsis of Book for Back Cover In the summer of 1974, Dr. Rose Strongin, a marine biologist, inexplicably disappears for three hours at an archaeological dig on the Western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Consequently Rose, her husband Simon and their two young daughters, miss their return flight from Israel which explodes over the Mediterranean killing all aboard. Haunted by the event and with no memory of her disappearance, Rose works to put it out of her head and focus on her work and family. But twelve years later, in 1986, she learns that a 2,000 year-old perfectly preserved vessel, dubbed by the press as the "Jesus Boat", is uncovered at the site of her disappearance and she begins to slowly recall the events of her amnesia. The Accidental Pilgrim_ crosses several decades as it explores the intersection of science, religion, and the unexplainable as a family gathers to say goodbye to the strong matriarch who held a family secret.
