'Moving Mom' is a stage play that revolves around a family in the midst of uprooting it's aging matriarch from her home of 60 years. It's a sweet, subtle, touching comedy, with a single set and a small cast of characters. 'Mom' is effectively a hoarder, and her family's desire to move her into a small apartment clashes with her desire to hold on to 50 year old trifles and tupperware.
¿Cuál es tu visión?
We have a very specific vision for the cover but will gladly accept variations or something completely different - however, we'll be very impressed with someone able to pull off the original vision. The cover will be comprised of 3 sections. The title, a scene with 3 characters, and the sub title. The art style we're envisioning for the scene is something akin to 1950s print ads or broadway playbills. Sleek, minimalist, cartoony, evoking motion. We've attached a few images as references to the art style. In the scene, we'd like to show three people from the neck or mid-torso down, all in motion. A man in slacks, a woman in a skirt and heels, an older, significantly shorter woman in a printed dress. The characters are: A middle aged woman and her husband (both harried city dwellers) The woman's 80 year old mother (lives in the country, dresses smartly, but many of her clothes are very out-dated.) - The man is on the left of the cover, walking left, mid stride, struggling under the weight of several boxes. - The older woman is on the right of the cover, facing right, walking stridently (or wandering, either way) off to the right. She can be partially out-of-frame, whichever is funnier. She's carrying garden shears and wearing a frilly apron. - The younger woman is caught in the middle, off balance, box under arm, reaching out vainly in the direction of the older woman. The more you can convey of those stage directions, the more impressed we will be. We want the cover to convey the playful spirit of the play. We're not married to any particular typefaces for the title or subtitle. However, the play contains many references to the 1950s. We'll leave the color pallette up to you. I imagine we can do with a minimal color pallette. We've attached a (badly and hastily drawn) version of the above. The title can go above or below the characters. We don't have dimensions for the book just yet, so standard paperback dimensions are acceptable. We will ultimately need additional assets and colors for the spine and the back cover. These can include things like cardboard boxes, stacks of plates, cans and tupperware.
A cartoonist would be the optimal candidate for this cover art as we envision it. Vector art is preferred as it is more malleable, and assets may need to be shifted around or modified in the future.
