Descripción del libro
Phoenicians Among Others offers the first history of Phoenician immigrants in the ancient Mediterranean from the fourth to the first centuries BCE onwards. This investigation of the effects of mobility and migration in the ancient Mediterranean offers an in-depth history of immigrants from Phoenician city-states living primarily in the Greek world and also in Carthage, Egypt, and the central Mediterranean islands of Sicily, Sardinia, and Malta. It reveals not only the laws, state policies, and values that fostered and limited human movement but also the migrants’ agency in seeking inclusion in their new societies. By integrating the voices and histories of immigrants with those of the states where they lived, Phoenicians Among Others demonstrates the diverse ways in which migrants influenced the development of societies, introduced new institutions, shaped the policies of their home and host states, and in the process changed the course of local, regional, and Mediterranean histories. Through an examination of inscriptions, many bilingual in Phoenician and Greek or Egyptian, the book integrates the voices and histories of immigrants with those of the states they were affiliated with. It shows that, far from being excluded, and despite facing prejudices, migrants shaped the political, cultural, social, economic, and religious landscape of their host societies, made notions of citizenship more fluid, and changed the course of local, regional, and Mediterranean histories.

Necesidades de diseño
The book's trim size will be 6 1/8 x 9 ¼”. I'd like the cover to say "Phoenicians" and "Migrants" and maybe also "Mediterranean." The book talks a lot about bilingual texts (see some of the images attached), so perhaps some allusion to that might be good but not necessary. I'd prefer some graphic image rather than a photo of an object. The graphic design could be inspired by some of the objects I illustrate in the book. I've included below copies of these. These can't be manipulated or cropped, so they can't be modified on the cover. But it would be okay if they serve as inspiration. I also attached one image of a flyer of a talk I gave that I think is attractive in its use of details form the images below to frame the cover. I am not attached to it, though.
Lo que debe evitarse
I'd like to avoid gray or black tones -- my previous two books both used those and I don't want all of my books to have the same style. Both my previous books also depicted ancient Greek vases. I don't want to just illustrate an object that's relevant to the book.
