Very important to look at the mushroom leather: Please see the Google Slide show here (I've also attached it). https://docs.google.com/presentatio…sp=sharing
Because our book is about biology and biotechnology, we’re making a limited edition book cover that I want to be very special. One of the companies that I work with is called Ecovative. Ecovative grows materials out of mushrooms and they have offered to provide us with the material for the cover of this book (see samples attached, its called mycoflex and it is like leather). To give you an idea what this material looks and feels like, it’s a little bit like a rubber yoga mat or a mouse pad.I’ve included in the attached files some images of the material so you get the feel for it. We have three options for using this material in the book cover, the first option is to emboss the book cover design unto the material. The second option is to laser-etched the design unto the material. The third option is to create a cut-out of the book cover and to put the material behind the cut-out so that it has an interesting texture when you pick up the book.
We want the book cover to be part of the publicity for the book so that we can tell people that we grew the book from mushrooms. Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any about this material. I’m hoping that you can create a realistic image. If you’re able to create a realistic image of this material as part of your design, then that would be amazing. However, you could also just create the design on a regular book and show me what that looks like. However, you need to bear in mind that the design needs to be able to be created in one of the forms that I described above for the limited edition cover. For example, I cannot imagine small text being easily embossed so avoid these kinds of small or detailed things in the design.
Graphics / Icon? We could not decide the kind of image we wanted for the cover. It could be something that tells you "bio strategy" or it could be something abstract.
