The author uses the pen name Jeremy Young to protect his real identity as he is still employed within a Fortune 500 company. Throughout his 20 years’ career, he has worked in seven different countries for U.S., European, CIS companies including public, private, family owned ones. He has held a lot of different roles including CEO, board member, chief marketing officer, head of business development, CFO, chief audit executive and consultant. He likes to spend his summers in Greece and travels a lot. He hopes a definite cure for COVID-19 is found as you read these lines so that the world is able to go back to normal and he can resume his global adventures. He dreams of buying a small boat with the proceeds of this book, to sail the Mediterranean and live out his bucket list. After I turned 40, I started to feel uncomfortably numb at the office. I was not getting the satisfaction I used to get from work. Every task, every meeting, every new project started to look the same to me. There are tons of books on the world of business. Subjects range from how to find a job, how to manage meetings, how to be a CEO, how to balance work and life. I looked for solutions to everyday problems at the office in these business books that were nothing but self-help books in disguise. None seemed to provide practical solutions that applied to daily life. I decided to write this book to share my honest thoughts about common subjects of office life. As someone who has worked for numerous, public, private, family-owned American, European, Middle Eastern and Asian businesses across seven countries, in the last 20 years, I have seen the insides of more offices than I prefer to count. Despite the variety of jobs and employers I have worked for, the similarities of office lives all over the world are striking. The problems experienced by junior associates, executive staff and CEOs, though at different level of complexity are remarkably alike. Equally similar are the promoted solutions in M.B.A. degrees, associated books and PowerPoint based training programs. What do they have in common? They don’t work. Why? Because they do not tackle the core issue. Life will become less complicated when we accept the dynamics of office life as is. I learnt this through trial and error. Through this book, I hope to save you from these trials and tribulations and guide you as my Shaman did for me. You will learn how to compartmentalize your life through the insights gained through this book and enjoy your limited time on this planet.

This is a book about the realities of office life. Some of the contents of the book could sound sarcastic but they are not. It is sort of an anti-MBA content so I would like the design to emphasise this fact.
