Descripción del libro
When you realize YOU have to take care of your parents, this book is a "keep stress to a minimum guidebook" for transitioning to parental caregiver. It’s a manual with checklists on how to sail smoothly through supporting your elders through their aging process. Filled with advice and tips gathered from children-caring-for-parents support groups, home health aide certification and Alzheimer’s training classes along with interviews of experts providing services for the aging population.
Público al que se apunta
Any adult person that finds themselves in the role of caregiver for a parent. In the United States, 34.2 million adult americans provide unpaid care for a parent each year. If the new caregiver finds they need to balance their own children/spouse or partner and job and bills and so on and suddenly has to care of a parent (or both parents!), there’s a lot of stress. There’s so much to do and no one tells you how to get through it all. My hope is that “I’ll Be Right There”, with humor and checklists, resources already sourced, a timeline, and advice from those who have gone through it on how to do it best, will help people be better caregivers without ruining their mental and physical health or destroying the relationships they have with family and friends. Keeping a sense of humor is critical. Realizing you’re not alone is uplifting.

Aesthetically, something clean, simple to understand, with a visual pop that grabs you. An easy to read font is what I’d like. I’m working with a serif 12 pt font for the text. I have no preference for the cover. This is going to be an e-book, downloadable from sites like Amazon or Google. The current size is 8.5” x 11” workbook format but I am planning to move to 10” iPad size. If cover could work well to download in pdf format workbook or read on e-reader, that would be optimal. Example: My original inspiration was the bright yellow Dummy book covers but I’d like something with more polish, less brown paper wrapper. the inside will have the feel of a workbook, with checklists to mark off and areas to include your own lists and notes. Spiral binding is a look I like. Not sure if I should just create an image of binding - since the book will be electronic? CONTENT: The book takes the reader from first realization that a parent may be slipping a little (either physically or mentally) through what to do after the parent has died. Taking care of self is a big part. NOTES on FEELING OF COVER: The reader is a stressed out, overwhelmed person looking for answers. Would love if the cover could convey visually that assistance is here, help is on the way, we’ve got your back, etc. Something that is more calming than alarming! (I wouldn’t be adverse to changing the subtitle if artist has a better idea??!!!) Inside the book are checklists for people that don’t want lots to read. Details, resources, and anecdotes follow for those that want some more guidance, perspective and background. There’s a resource section at the end with where to go and who can help info. The book is all told with a sense of humor in a very “let’s talk, girlfriend” tone.
