Heather Balog is a self proclaimed "Bad Mommy" and the author of twleve novels, including the Amy Maxwell Cozy Mystery Series. She also collaborates with her "Tween-age" daughter on the Lexie Maxwell Series for young readers. She blogs at "The Bad Mommy Diaries" which, according to her family, is mostly obnoxious exaggeration, but it's much cheaper than therapy. When Heather is not writing or complaining on her blog, she's a school nurse, taxi driver, her household Sudoku champion, and a runner with way too many aches and pains to be any good. She lives with her husband and her two children who all make fun of her inability to exist without the help of a Post-It note list on a daily basis. She also has a very needy dog who does not make fun of her, but enjoys emptying the garbage in the kitchen just to get her blood pressure boiling. This book is mysterious and brooding, involving a graveyard, young teens (2 girls and 2 boys) and a secret. There is a blood pact. It isn't "horror movie" scary...more "Ghosts of your past" scary. It is dark, but spooky dark...not horrifying or depressing dark. There is a bit of humor and sense of nostalgia to the book as well. I like hints of images in the background---it does not have to be "in your face" that this is a graveyard. Also, bikes (or other reminders of childhood), houses, a wooded area, or a tombstone would be good images to use. I like the style of Jennifer McMahon, Chevy Stevens, S.J. Bolton (especially the cover for "Lost"), Lisa Unger. A serious font.
Lo que debe evitarse
I would prefer not too much use of stock images.
