Souls in Midnight World, the world of the dead, find different ways to get relief from the darkness and uncertainty that surrounds them. For Rein, peace will come when he is reunited with the love of his mortal life, Erinese. He remembers that he died trying to save her but not much else. He spends all his time seeking opportunities to bridge, moments when one’s consciousness is implanted into memories of their mortal life, hoping to gather clues to where Erinese might have gone after Rein’s death and where in Midnight World she might be.
After giving up all his supplies for a chance to bridge, Rein volunteers to serve a crew of hunters. The crew takes care of its own in its pursuit to capture takers, luminous beings who take souls ending their existence as they know it. The crew eases Rein’s loneliness, but nothing could’ve prepared him for the pain of learning that Erinese moved on after Rein’s death.
Rein finally finds Erinese dwelling with a new family complete with husband and daughter. Amid grief, Rein realizes the daughter might be his, and that he unwittingly marked himself to be taken while with the hunters. He tries to force himself back in Erinese’s life and struggles to be close to what could be his daughter while at the same time avoiding being taken and protecting others from his marked status.

The story conveys a feeling of longing, wanting, and tiresome endurance. It's a dark story set in a dark world. The moon provides a very small, very faint glimmer of hope. I would like to capture that mood in the cover.
Lo que debe evitarse
Avoid a gothic, macabre feeling. The cover should feel brooding but not scary. The cover should have the feeling you get when you know you are about to get bad news, but it should not feel like you are personally threatened or in danger.
