I would like a book cover (front and back) that meets publishing industry standards. The story is as follow: The novel is set in the midst of the largest hurricane landfall to strike the Carolina Coast. Four unlikely allies join forces and foil the plans of an art thief and uncover a secret that could shock the art world.
"The Hurricane Stew" is a fast-paced Southern mystery novel set in a genteel costal Carolina town veiled in a proud and troubled past. The novel spreads its web of scholarly intrigue across two continents and over six centuries, back to High Renaissance Italy. At stake is a discovery so astonishing that it will redefine a thief’s obsession and a master’s legacy.
The story centers about an astounding discovery made by an art thief, his desire to keep the art to himself, and the obsession he develops for his find. He has discovered that the famed Michael Angelo was in fact a confirmed forger before becoming famous.
The historical record confirms that Michael Angelo sculpted a Sleeping Cupid, buried it in acidic dirt to age it and sold it to a cardinal in Rome, passing it for work done in Greek antiquity. The Sleeping Cupid passed hands from the Borgias to the Este families. The statue was later brought to England and mysteriously disappeared during a great fire that destroyed Whitehall in the 18th century.
In the novel, the Sleeping Cupid was not the only forgery that Michael Angelo created and the art thief has secured several other stunning sculptures and plans to keep them for himself. He has become so obsessed with his find that he loses all moral compass and is prepared to destroy anything and anyone standing in his way. His find is worth millions (if it is not priceless.)
Standing in his way are four friends unraveling the mystery in the midst of the largest hurricane to make landfall in their coastal Carolina town. The closer they come to solving the mystery, the closer they come to man and nature-made danger.
The genre is Southern Mystery and I would like the cover to reflect the following:
• Southern setting
• Catastrophic hurricane (Deus Ex Machina – in the end the gravest danger is from the hurricane)
• Renaissance Art (sculpture)
I do not want Michael Angelo illustrated in the book cover as I would like to give the reader the opportunity to solve the mystery. The hurricane is a character in its own right.
