In 1993, after four years in the Navy and achieving the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer Adam started working three part time jobs; the family farm, hanging sheetrock and working the docks Roadway Express. In 1994, he relocated to Houston seeking more opportunity. His first job in Houston was at McNichols Company working as a warehouseman. He was promoted into sales at McNichols company in 1995 and quickly rose to be the top salesperson before leaving for a better opportunity at Ferro Union.
His position at Ferro Union was inside sales and he supported three out of town outside sales people. In 2002, he was promoted to outside sales and replaced all three of the sales people he was previously working with. By 2005, he had doubled the sales of his territory.
In June of 2005, he started Ace Steel Supply out of his one bedroom apartment by emptying out his retirement accounts and borrowing $450,000 from his Grandmother. He finished 2005 with $1.8 million in sales in just six months of business.
In April of 2006, he rented a 24,000-square foot warehouse and by 2009 his Grandmother was paid off and he bought the building he had been renting. Since 2012, he has worked with outside professionals to revamp and improve the business processes and install more efficient systems in all departments of the company. Today, Ace Steel has evolved in a boutique company with a staff of fourteen that focuses on preferred clients who value relationships over low price, and who want to save time and take the stress out of buying their steel. This approach ensures clients get the personal attention and service they deserve. To provide this service Ace Steel now has four trucks, five trailers, four forklifts and a warehouse full of steel.
As a business owner and entrepreneur, Adam has seen the ups and downs of the steel market. What has always worked to maintain a steady growth is having honest, direct conversations with people and doing what he says he is going to do. Isn’t that what you and every other business owner really wants? Ultimately, Ace Steel only wants to do business with people they know, like and trust. This business philosophy has worked for nearly two decades and counting. If you value this kind of relationship give Ace Steel Supply a call at 832-300-1030.
