I'm looking for a fantasy book cover that's illustrated, but not in the typical 'dungeons and dragons' style. I know that every genre has its conventions, though I'm thinking more along the lines of art nouveau (pun intended) like:
Eyvar Earle http://linesandcolors.com/2012/04/1…e-website/
or the great artwork by Arnie Jorgensen in the Banner Saga game.
It must look good as a thumbnail and in the black and white kindle paperwhite version.
cover specs: jpeg file, height/width ratio of 1.6, min. 1,400 pixels wide - file size below 2 MB
Also on the cover:
Title: The Living Blade
Subtitle: Season One
Author's name: Sam Blankenburg
The setting of the series is european medieval, but more Early Medieval (500-600 AD), not High (no knights in shining armor).
There should be a sword on the cover, duh. I like this one, because I trust the japanese to be awesome at drawing blades: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/download/14521
But really, it's up to you - it's a mythical blade with magic powers. It's what everyone wants to have. Think Excalibur, but it's not Excalibur.
The cover should also show the main character: Nora. (See attempt at blurb attached). She is NOT Xena the warrior princess, NOT I'm -so-hot-I'm-the-Mother-of-Dragons Danaerys Targaryen, and NOT Arya Stark.
In real life, she'd look a bit like Smith Kate from A Knight's Tale (movie with Heath Ledger) played by Laura Fraser.
But in my mind, she and her twin brother (Owen) are basically a human version of Gaiman's Endless: Dream and Death. (So, they're not quite as pale white as Gaiman's siblings ...)
(Pic here - the first picture of the article -: http://www.tor.com/2013/10/01/casti…-sandman/)
The cover could show both Owen and Nora. I don't know if the other big characters should go on the cover. If you choose to make an ensemble picture, here are some extra ideas to help you:
Prince Bashan - Tom Hiddleston's Loki (without the horned helmet, 'nuff said)
Master Diaz is a bit difficult as he's a half-elf ... er ... I mean half-wight. Wights look kind of like Drell from the Mass Effect Universe - only not with the lizard coloring - no greens and blues. http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Drell
So he's a mix between that and a human.Think: Adam Jensen (with shades, without beard) from Deus Ex:Human Revolution.
I apologize for all the nerdy computer game references in this description, only I really DON'T want a cover that screams Game-of-Thrones-ripoff.
