Descripción del libro
About: The Frequency is a multi POV, paranormal thriller aimed at adult audiences. Think 'The Exorcist' meets 'Torchwood'. it is scheduled for release in late July 2021 (TBC). The Blurb (Subject to change): "We all belong to The Frequency." A string of interconnected possessions plague Cornwall’s coastlines. Amongst them, Syrian refugee Rasha is haunted by a spectre of molten shadow. To hone her psychic abilities she is indoctrinated by The Network, an occult organisation. There she strikes an unlikely friendship with Trish and Sam, two of its wayward members. Trish and Sam lend abilities of precognition and soul protraction to investigate the origin of the shadow. As a consequence, their pasts creep up on them in devastating ways. Rasha’s conditioning unlocks a darkness in herself that she had fought to keep hidden. The fate of existence hangs in a balance. The trio’s investigation leads them to the heart of The Network where an unimaginable secret lurks — one that will change their understanding of the afterlife forever.

Necesidades de diseño
Hey everyone, I'm Terry! I'm looking for an eye catching, modern cover design. I'm using this platform because, even though I've played around with an idea myself (see attached image) I'm open to interpretation and ideas that I many not have thought of before. I'll start with the nitty-gritty: - Trim Size: 6 inches x 9 inches - Font Styles: Open to any - Mood: Dark, haunting, atmospheric, creepy, sinister, ghostly. - Colour preferences: paranormal-esque green and blue hues, but open to other ideas. Style: I am split between two design styles that I like -- perhaps this competition will help me choose. The two are: - Photographic/ detailed illustrated covers that are a prevalent trend in the paranormal/ horror space and are therefore more marketable. These include: dark, foreboding landscapes ( https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51QN8d1SZaL.jpg ) a particular scene from the book (https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51ZiSIx2djL.jpg) or a particular symbol that represents a theme ( https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51CG8SGip4L._SX323_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg ) However, I absolutely adore minimalist/ collector's edition designs -- particularly with isolated colours, intricate line work and clever use of negative spaces, such as: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51-rcnlq+DL.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/518RYaN7CBL.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41kj4hsaCXL.jpg Please consult my pinterest board for my favourite book covers: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/terryltkitto/book-covers/ I've compiled a list from the book to spark some ideas, which are: Locations: - The Collieries - a Cornish tin mine, featuring an engine house. For visual references, look here: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/search/pins/?q=cornish%20tin%20mine&rs=typed&term_meta=cornish%7Ctyped&term_meta=tin%7Ctyped&term_meta=mine%7Ctyped - The Cornish Coast - A lighthouse - Dartmoor Prison (UK) - Underground tunnels and mine shafts - Steampunk-esque laboratories and work spaces - A sea-side caravan park - Open fields with power lines/ transmission towers - Enclosed, wild woodlands - A dilapidated public school - Narrow, winding village streets - War torn Homs, Syria Repeating Symbols: - Birds (Particularly canaries, herons and gulls) - Birdcages (of being trapped) - A misshapen, humanoid shadow/ spectre (the antagonist of the story) - The Receptor - a helmet-like device that helps people connect to the dead, described as crustaceous in appearance, made of tin and copper, with multiple wires attached to it. - The Transfer - an adult sized glass cube full of smoke and red laser beams, created to contain ghosts. - A sensory deprivation tank. - A holographic, upright Ouija board. - An underground vault crammed with filing cabinets. - A secret file that is, at one point, described as being 'swept from the table in a flurry of secrets." - A three-wheeled reliant robin car. - The sea (used as a metaphor for The Frequency). - The Network -- the occultist group that work inside an abandoned tin mine -- have a logo best described as two overlapping circles, like a venn diagram made up of horizontal lines, interlocked at an angle. - Windows, gate aways and tunnel entrances; reflections: used as metaphors for being able to access 'The Nothing'/ The Afterlife. - A 1600's Nigerian pirate ship. - Red skies/ horizons. Specific Action Scenes: - Towards the climax of the book an oil spill out at sea ignites and engulfs half a dozen trawlers. - A hoard of mental health patients become possessed and break out from a hospital. - Underground mine shafts collapse and are engulfed by water. - A car crashes and tumbles down a wooded hillside. The novel's mystery/ intrigue: - What is the shadow? - Why are the possessions happening? - Is The Network involved? - How is teenage Rasha (the main character) as powerful as she is? Further themes and concepts from the book that could be explored through visual language: - The Frequency is an energy wave that ghosts transmit through to contact the living, and vice versa. Hence why the sea is a consistent symbol throughout. - For ghosts and humans to connect, they have to bond over a specific emotional state and merge together. In the book, this is described to a character as an overlapping of souls (hence The Network's logo) - Grief and longing - Biological family vs. chosen family - Right and wrong - Mental Health and addiction - Monsters; in the literal sense and the human sense; ethical and moral principles PLEASE NOTE: This will be the first in a series. For brand consistency, your design and composition will have to be translatable to further covers. It will be used in promotional materials (bookmarks, stickers, posters, social media banners, hoodies etc.) so it must be high resolution and work effectively in small and large formats. Hopefully that's enough to get started. Please feel free to message me at any point if you have any questions. Now I leave it open to you guys -- the more stylistic, unique and individual, the better! Have fun creating!
Lo que debe evitarse
- Using photographs or silhouettes of people. - Using overt paranormal/occult images like skulls, candles, towering mansions on top of hills etc. - Having the entire cover taken up by author name and title (I want your designs to be centre stage and shine!)
