This is not a typical romance story. It is based on sensitive subject matter. The love scenes within are closed door. So anything you design should be discreet, ideally head shots. I'm more interested in delivering a range of emotions besides passion on this cover. Love is the main theme but more true-to-life. Below are actual excerpts from the book. Restaurant scene and scene where the two are at their honeymoon suite: Restaurant Scene: Matt’s gray eyes dipped to Vera’s partially eaten plate of food. “Feel sick, again?” Vera gave a quick nod. “I forced myself . . . I think that’s all I can eat for today.” Matt gave a faint smile. He let go of her hand and grabbed her plate and began to eat the remainder of his and her food. “I wish I had your appetite.” She flashed a look of sadness at him. “It'll be back when we share our wedding cake.” Matt gave another smile and reassuring rub to her hand. Two weeks had passed since he proposed, and it was their first outing as an engaged couple. Their romantic moment together was as good as it could have been given the reality of their circumstances. Vera sat quietly and watched Matt resume eating. A man so humble, so gracious and so beautiful would soon become her husband. It was the one thing, aside from her trust in God, that gave her hope. Honeymoon Suite Scene: Matt’s fingers felt like heaven as he massaged her body firmly. He had her almost completely loose when she felt his fingers crawl up the nape of her neck. Slowly, Matt peeled off her wig. Vera knew Matt would see her without her wig eventually, but nothing could have prepared her for how naked she felt right then. Her “hair” had been her security blanket the entire time she dated him, and now, for the first time, it was gone. The air was thick with tension as Matt feverishly rummaged through her bags until he found her wig stand and placed the wig gently on it. He sensed the renewal of her anxiety radiating off her body; he got up and quickly turned off all the lights, stripped down to his underwear, and slid under the sheets beside her. “I just want to hold you, V,” Matt said, rubbing her arms and thighs affectionately. Aside from her fifteen-year-old niece, no one had called her V since high school. “We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to―I know you’re tired. I wasn’t expecting us to make love tonight.” Vera had never felt as emotionally torn as she did when she felt Matt’s hard body press up against her. Absent energy combined with her whirlwind history had squashed the urgent desire for intimacy with her new husband. The trauma of chemotherapy treatments, tests, follow-ups at the hospital, vomiting bouts, loss of her eldest sister compounded by memory of the attempted rape by Steve Brimmer flooded over her like an unleashed dam. After dead silence had stretched a few seconds between them, Matt heard Vera sniffling . . . I have my own stock imagery. The two models fit perfectly with my description of them in the book. I'll leave incorporation of my pics mostly to designer's imagination. I definitely want to use a shade (light teal) bluish-green? for background color, but I can be open to something else. I like the idea of pic cover being separated into sections but smaller. Or, background could look like broken glass, wrinkled or ripped paper, grainy background, like sandpaper, splintered wood, abstract or real as long as the stock photos can be delivered without looking like they were just pasted on the cover. A cloudy sky, e. g. , something that expresses a little conflict such as vines, thorns, cracked lines, gloomy clouds, etc., with vivid contrast in texture and colors to show that these people have had a tough past but they still have hope. Font should reflect contrast as well, based on meaning of "beauty" "second" and "chances" in particular. I also wanted female character to have a tear rolling down her face. It would be great if the male character's light gray eyes could be showcased. Book cover could have people images in opposite corners, or could be placed in the middle-- The couple at the top and the female alone at the bottom with the bluish-green filter surrounding them. Maybe that would make more since. Or just a cover with the couple. I wanted to show how vulnerable the female character was in the beginning and then coming on equal plane with her younger husband. If that makes sense. Another idea could be to use symbols, birds or something else appropriate as a substitute for people to express the title. It's so much possibilities. I hope I've provided enough ideas for you guys. But feel free to use your own creativity. I just need something striking that doesn't let people know I'm a self-published author. Font styles: (Dafont.com) Tasha font Olean font Hilland font Monyatha font Madina font P.S. many of the stock photos I've posted below (Shutterstock) were of peeling paint. I thought they provided interesting texture and dimensions. With the right font, it would be stunning!
Lo que debe evitarse
Just avoid erotica, Harlequin-like or dark-themed presentations. Not too cheery, dainty or plain.

My design was created for a drama romance novel. It took so many revisions on my part, but I liked that the designer kept working with me. The simplicity of a clock surrounded by ivy in the shape of a heart was an interesting combination to present correctly. I also loved the way the font with orange shading was used to accent the clock. The rose that replaced the letter "O" in the word "Second" gave the cover a classic touch and reemphasized the romantic feel of the book cover. black background really set everything off. There were so many directions we could have gone image wise. I don't feel like there was anything my designer could have improved on because it will be up to the prospective reader to feel something when they see this beautiful, creative cover, and I think most will!!!
