Descripción del libro
War sweeps the land as the sons and daughters of the late King Marcus battle over who will claim their father’s throne and able-bodied men and women flock to one cause or the other in the hopes of a better tomorrow. At least, most of them. If life has taught the jaded sellsword, Aaron Envelar, anything, it’s that hope is for fools and causes are a sure remedy for breathing. But when his latest job leads him to the corpse of a prince and a conspiracy that threatens to destroy the entire realm, Aaron is forced to choose sides in a war he doesn’t want, between forces he doesn’t understand. Thrust into a world of mythical assassins, a madman with superhuman strength, and a nagging ball of light with a superiority complex who claims to be the embodiment of compassion, Aaron takes on his hardest job yet—staying alive.

Diseño de inspiración
I like the faded out color scheme and the mood it sets. A sort of dark, contemplative one.
I like the look of his cloak and the way the background expands past the character, giving a feel of the rest of the world around him.

Otros requisitos relativos al color
Don't have a specific color requirement. I just want the mood to be grim, pretty dark. I really like the blue scale of the Name of the Wind cover (included in brief).

Aaron is a sellsword in the Downs, the poorest district of a fantasy city (think medieval city). During the course of the story, he meets up with a magical floating ball of magenta light that makes him feel compassion. For the cover, I picture Aaron knelt on one knee, a bloody sword held in one hand, the floating magenta ball of light floating over him. His other hand is over his eyes maybe in despair or regret. He wears a tattered, brown hooded cloak. That would be in the foreground. In the background, I envision two or three soldiers lying dead behind him, simple leather armor, swords and the closest one has a crossbow in his hand or lying beside him on the cobbled street. Also, I'd like them to be on a street in the Downs with cheap shacks and buildings around them but no other people in the street. I picture the mood being a darker style, grim. It would be night time, the only light coming from the moon or a few hanging street lanterns. I've included the book cover for Name of the Wind which has a similar mood to what I'm looking for. The main character is 6'2" 190 pounds, lithe, muscular. Dark hair, handsome but with a coldness to his features. He'll be wearing simple dark clothes. Fine dark leather boots. I would like to see the Downs in pretty good detail behind Aaron, and one hand over his face as if in regret. Also, it would be raining in the picture. If able to make it work, I really like the blue scale shown in the Name of the Wind cover.
Lo que debe evitarse
Obviously it wouldn't fit with the book, so no dragons or fantastical races, anything like that.
