THE CIVILIAN has already received four - 5 star reviews from national reviewers.
I'm looking to create an ICONIC book cover.
The title of the book is THE CIVILIAN
Its the story of an ordinary man (a telemarketer) who finds out he is dying. He is persuaded by the US government to use his last healthy days to help them take down the most ruthless drug cartel boss in South America.
The underlying tone is finding out what we're all capable of under the wrong circumstances.
Can you or I be turned into a killer?
I'm looking for a powerful ICONIC cover.
So that the moment someone sees it they understand 2 things:
1) A Civilian is being put in grave danger
2) And that this book has already been very well reviewed.
I'm looking for creativity to get both points across, but here is what I have envisioned -
Starting along the top - "*****" (5 large stars - like a movie review would show) - below it would say - Readers' Favorite
I also have a medallion that I am allowed to use as validation of a 5 star review - so that needs to be somewhere towards the top. I have attached a glossy and a matte version.
then the actual quote from the review - see attached.
The other main focus of the cover would be a close up of a man's face - who is clearly a hostage. A cloth over his eyes - duct tape over his mouth. With the title over it...see samples below.
Please note these are only samples I don't think they are good enough to be used for the cover - (unless you cant do it better) but I wanted to give you an idea what I was looking for.
Whatever art is used needs to be copyright free of course.
Somewhere on the front would be the question to the audience:
"You have six months to live... Want to die a hero?
finally - a novel by - Michael Bickel
I would think for colors - it should be menacing, but eye catching. Certainly some red to bring out the color as well as the idea that blood will spill.
If you just cant work with the illustration concept or want to be creative with the title THE CIVILIAN - if you can incorporate a jagged knife within the title that might be cool - jagged teethed knives play a role in the book.
The spine could certainly be cool to play with the title.
The backcover consists of 3 things:
a review quote (attached)
the back cover blurb (attached)
and a spot for the scan
I've attached the exact 2 templates from the publisher. Both sizes are 5.5x8.5 with about 187 pages - but they differ slightly because of the wrap.
1 for the dust cover - hard copy
1 for the paperback version
The winner will need to supply both plus a eBook version.
Don't be scared off by my requests - I'm just looking for a cool cover for a cool book.
Be creative!!! You can do it!!!
Any questions please ask -
