I am an ecological designer, specializing in small group creativity: in this capacity, I help people design local, adaptive responses to complex (wicked) problems. I am also a writer, and my work (non-fiction and fiction) deals with the same issues I address in my professional practice--essentially, the human relationship to the rest of the planet. My target audience for both my professional services and my writing is the informed global citizen seeking to reduce human impact and maximize quality of life. A book cover for my play "Solstice Song: A Christmas Carol for the 21st Century." The final size of the book will be 8.5 x 5.5. I'd like the graphic design of the title to evoke some aspect of the storyline. Key elements (feel free to choose which one(s) to emphasize) involve time travel to (1) the north Atlantic on the night of the sinking of the Titanic (past), (2) the morning of 911 from within WTC South Tower, just after WTC North Tower was hit (present) and (3) a refugee camp at the base of the Washington monument--now in ruins (future). Very important: the cover should be simple and evocative--iconic. No busy illustrations! I'm particularly interested in designs that play with letters in the title so they become an image (for example, a silhouette of the towers burning, above/ a leaf falling away to right/below) to link the title to the content and intrigue the reader--but keep it nuanced. Less really is more. The background will be a matte, solid color with the title/imagery in a single, complementary color--see my attached mock up for an example (Note: while I'm inclined toward purple/aubergine background with green lettering I'm open to other options as far as color scheme.)
