My novel, "The Arrangement," is a romance with a touch of mystery. I published it last year with a cover created by Create Space -- a design into which I had a lot of input, showing a pretty young brunettte on a gray horse, against an autumn background. (2 stock photos, one superimposed on the other.)
It's an attractive cover, but it does not even hint at romance. If someone browsing online simply looks at the cover image without reading my blurb, I've lost them. And I've recenty discovered that a great many of the people who have bought the book are folks who like horse-oriented novels -- some of which are also romances -- but they appear to be reacting to the horse image on the cover. I'm afraid that I may be missing the (much larger) romance market, which I'd like a new cover to address.
Design elements should include:
- A horse (gray)
- A man and a woman. Attractive peopole, both with dark hair. They don't have to be large images, just as long as it's clear that there is a couple. The woman is a rider (also a catering chef, altho' I don't see any way to include that. The man is an equine vet, not a rider.
- A pretty rural background. (VA hunt country.)
You can find my existing cover (and blurb) at my Amazon site (Susan H Spencer, "The Arrangement.") I will send the J-Peg file once the contest has started.
