Carson McCloud is the author of multiple western adventure novels. He's lived in five western states and loves writing about the climate, the history, the people, and the spirit of the Old West.

The story takes place in the old west. Nate Devlin and his wife Teresa along with their son Finn own a ranch on the edge of the Ochoco mountains in southern Oregon near Prineville. The leader of a gang of bandits, who's brother was killed in the previous book, kidnaps Teresa and Finn and takes them into northern Nevada to draw Nate into a confrontation. Teresa's brother, Luke, accompanies Nate to rescue his sister and nephew.

Western readers are largely male, middle-aged or older, and mostly reside in the US.

The story takes place near the Black Rock Desert in Nevada during summer. This is a high altitude desert with sage and playa salt flats. I would prefer to emphasize the huge scale of the country relative to Nate and Luke as they search. I like the banded look with the banner on top and bottom. Title should be on top. Author name on bottom. Similar to previous books.
