Hello designers. We’d like for you to design a 7-3/8 x 9-1/4” (NOT a standard size) paperback for us. Here’s the information on the book:
Title: Profitable Podcasting
Subtitle: Grow Your Business, Expand Your Platform, and Build a Nation of True Fans
Author: Stephen Woessner
Audience: Anyone in a mid-sized or small business who wants to start or improve their podcasting activities
Over all “look and feel”: Energetic, bold, colorful, very contemporary, a bit playful, but not too silly, as we want people to think it’s an excellent source of advice/expertise. BIG dramatic title, in a fun-but-not-too-wacky font. We want a sense of depth in this design — not just flat elements. I can imagine one element of handwritten font. But not required.
Possible imagery — we have a couple different concepts (the first is the MAIN idea we'd like you to try):
MAIN IDEA: show many different people somehow “receiving” your podcast — with headphones on. These are the “nation of true fans” that the subtitle talks about. Most likely this would be tiny illustrations of people, but we’re open to some interesting photographic imagery. We do NOT WANT to see the individual faces of the people — they are a big crowd that may be scattered all over, but they’re all listening to YOUR podcast. The listeners should not all look like businesspeople — they could be a variety of types of people.
You could include the radio waves symbol if you like or some what to show connection. We would rather NOT have a microphone as almost all the competitive books use this
ANOTHER IDEA, BUT IT'S BEEN USED ALREADY AND DOESNT' SHOW THE "NATION OF FANS": have a photographic image of a very modern pair of headphones (the big kind that go over your ears and have the title in between them, where a person’s head would go.
It would be great to show “profits” somehow, but there are so many clichéd and cheap-looking $ signs — it will be hard to do it well.
AND ONE MOE IDEA: would be to incorporate “splitters” somehow —the cable that lets two people listen to one device . . .

NOTE #1: Please show me your designs as a face-front, flat image. We prefer jpgs that are about 1200 pixels tall. We do not want to see a spine or a back cover.
NOTE #2: Please do not send many variations on a given design (I can’t look through all of them). Pick the version that YOU think works best.
Some information about the book is attached.
Thanks, Cathleen Ouderkirk
