Honeymoon in Baghdad
Biografía del autor
Despite an initial fear of stepping outside her comfort zone, Heidi Radkiewicz has traveled the world and adventured beyond her wildest dreams. Heidi served in the Army National Guard for almost 4 years, as an 88 M (semi-truck driver), but these days she’s focused on an even greater challenge: standing as the back-bone of her young family – a stay-at home wife and mother to two wonderful children. When she isn’t busy raising her family or taking care of the house, she spends her time outdoors, working out or exercising the dog – ever mindful of health and nutrition. She’s kept her love of travel, and she still finds time to relish the company of her family and friends. With her husband Jake at her side, and her children growing up so fast, Heidi wants other young women to know that with enough honesty and communication, you can accomplish anything. Through the grace of God, adversity can pull you closer together.
Descripción del libro
A heart-rending tale of love on the battlefield, Heidi Radkiewicz’ Honeymoon in Baghdad explores the challenges and joys of a new marriage beset by the horrors of war. Beyond the usual complications of limited closet space and awkward dinners with the in-laws, National Guard recruits Heidi and Jake learned that they were both shipping off to Iraq mere weeks after tying the knot. In the months that followed, intense heat, mind-numbing boredom, and the ever-present danger of roadside bombs and murderous insurgents forged this pair into a team that can take on the world.
Written with grace and humor, Heidi’s account of this formative period in her young marriage is a lesson in the unwavering power of faith, hope, and finding joy in unexpected places. From bucket showers to palm-sized water beetles, Heidi’s message is clear: hold tight to the people you love, take comfort in the man by your side, and keep a look out for anything that can make you smile.

-I think the most important thing about the book is: going to war with my husband and how our relationship/bond grew even stronger because of it.
-As far as the cover goes, I'm assuming simplicity is better. We (my hubby and I) had originally thought about having the sand dunes of Iraq, as a backdrop, with one of our 915 semi trucks (that we drove over there) in the distance. Up close we thought there could be two rifles overlapping one another with two wedding rings around the barrels of the rifles. That was an initial thought of ours but I'd like to know what your thoughts are, as well.
