I need a book cover for my fiction/adventure book (based on true events). I have attached a cover that was patched together by a family member, that is a decent representation of something that might work, but it isn't very professional. The title is "Hope's Egg" and I wanted a slightly cracked egg with a menacing machete behind or over the egg. I envisioned a white egg on a black background - however, the black background would fade into white. The white might contrast against the dark machete. The machete should look like it has been in the jungle for a while (not a nice newly purchased machete). I own a machete that was used in the design that I'm attaching to this request. I might be able to take more photos of that machete if it would be helpful. Please refer to the attachment for the copy that needs to be included on the design (book title, written by ..., and a couple other little lines). I would like the design to catch people's attention and give the impression that the book is exciting. While the egg should be cracked, it shouldn't show any yolk or color on the inside (just the slight shadow of being cracked). The egg used in the attached design is brownish, but if a white egg would look better, that's okay too. The egg can be a little dirty (the egg in the book represents an impoverished child, most likely of light brown to dark black color - the book will not specify for various reasons). The attached design has a little glow around the egg, but I'm not a fan of the glow.
Also, if you think it would be better to go a very different direction from the attached design, I'm not opposed to seeing that. If it is better, I'll like it. I went with black and white background because there is sort of a good vs. evil in the book, but again, I'm open to your creativity. The book does have a light side to it - some innocent child characters, some humor and funny situations, but also deals with real and serious matters (based on nearly unbelievable situations that are really happening in the world - and documented in the appendix at the back of the book). I don't know how to represent the lighter side of the book with the egg and the machete on the cover. But, if the cover is interesting enough, I hope the potential reader will investigate further. "Hope" is the main character who is trying to protect an egg (he thinks a chicken is in the egg) while he gets mixed up in a bunch of dangerous adventures. In the book, the egg gets wrapped up in a rag to protect it for a while. So, I suppose the cracked egg could be sitting in a crumpled rag with the machete behind it. Feel free to be creative. Thanks!
