Descripción del libro
Personal Brandology provides a personal branding framework that allows you to capitalise on every element of your personal brand. In the 21st century world of work your personal brand is your value and you can’t afford it to be anything less than remarkable. Society ago transitioned from the early industrial revolutions which viewed individuals as expendable robotic workhorses, now we live in an age where you, the individual, are positioned at the centre of the universe. Today companies fight for your attention, plead with you to join their team of employees, offer payment to associate yourself with their brand, they even scramble over each other trying to provide you with the best possible experience. The power balance has shifted. No longer does it reside with stale corporations and outdated mindsets. Your unique value, captured by your personal brand, amidst the backdrop of the 21st century economic landscape, has put all the power in your hands. You’re the one in charge. Your life is your business. And the fact of the matter is, your personal brand is advertising something that is one-of-a-kind and uniquely valuable. After all, there really is nothing quite like you. PREFACE (MORE INFORMATION) Preface Over the last decade, I have achieved a few things, which, in combination, have provided me the capabilities, insights, and knowledge required to craft this book. If I was to draw on some of them to paint myself as a credible author and help you justify the time and effort investment required to read this book, I’d probably start with my first business, Jaystar Fitness, where I’ve worked for the last nine years as an independent professional. Soon after starting Jaystar, I went on to co-found two more companies: one in internship recruitment and one in personal branding, and in doing this I sold the résumé technology we’d developed to career professionals, recruiters, résumé writers, and employment agencies. During these ventures, I coproduced an interview course to improve employability, which is now being micro-credentialed by an Australian university and translated into different languages for delivery in different countries. Within this time, I also completed a Bachelor of Science at Victoria University and a Master of Biotechnology at Melbourne University. During my science degree, I was awarded an innovation scholarship by the College of Business to represent Victoria University in Italy at the world-renowned European Innovation Academy; was asked to guest lecture for an innovation subject at La Trobe university; participated as a start-up mentor at Deakin’s entrepreneurial SPARK program; and, most recently – and perhaps one of my biggest achievements – is that I completed this book. However, for every success outlined above there were 100 failures that I felt wholeheartedly, and I learned more, if not the most, from each of them. It is the above highlight reel of my life, combined with years of hardship, stress, failure, introspection, learning, reading, and challenging experiences, that has led me to the realisations put forward in this book. Working as an independent professional while simultaneously being involved in start-ups focused on recruitment and personal branding, and concurrently studying science where I familiarised myself with academic literature, refined my critical-thinking ability, and gained a deep understanding of the biology and psychology underlying Homo sapiens, provided me the resources and realisations I needed to link up this framework of personal branding. There are surprising links between biology, psychology, business, entrepreneurship, and the future of work, and, as evidenced in the proceeding pages, it’s a link you can’t ignore. The purpose of this book is to demonstrate a few key points: 1. In the 21st century you are part-business and part-biological organism. 2. Due to being part-business, you have a personal brand forever attached to you. 3. By observing how organisations behave, it’s clear to see the most successful are those that humanise themselves. 4. The world of work is changing, from the primitive paradigms of the early industrial revolutions, which viewed employees as expendable, robotic workhorses, to a new age where the individual is placed at the centre of the universe and is given power. 5. The business of the 21st century world of work is the individual – it’s you! Your personal brand that will drive your success is influenced by a framework of elements specific to you, which is entirely what this book is about. 6. A component of a flourishing life is a successful career. This book will well-equip you for the emerging world of work through gaining a better understanding of your personal brand while simultaneously being exposed to a holistic approach to life, which will enable you to rethink what personal flourishing looks like in modernity. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. To your success, Jayden Kafanelis
