Biografía del autor
Nikolina Kulidzan was born in the former Yugoslavia. She came to the United States at the age of eighteen to study not realizing this would turn into a life-long project. Bosnian-refugee-cum-U.S.-diplomat is her own version of the rags-to-riches tale. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Sun Magazine, Best New Writing, and other publications, and has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Award. Her home is wherever she, her husband John and their white-socked mutt Felix Wong have a roof over their heads.
Descripción del libro
Sasha Freedman’s parents just dropped the price of a mortgage on their daughter’s college education, so it is not entirely surprising that they are a little over-involved in her life. But Sasha has had enough. In the first real act of rebellion, the twenty-two-year old quits her fast-track corporate job in San Francisco to live and work at a mindfulness retreat in Costa Rica. Before she even boards her flight, however, a lone backpacker catches her eye, and soon enough, Sasha trades mindfulness for mind-blowing activities of another nature. Just as the young couple settles into the care-free rhythm of their new Caribbean home, their pleasant routine is disrupted when Sasha discovers she is pregnant. Fourteen time zones away in Singapore, in a spur of the moment decision, forty-year old oil industry executive Alex Savic ducks into an airport bathroom and takes a home pregnancy test. This is how she learns that her fourth round of IVF has failed and the only goal that has ever evaded her—to have a child—continues to be out of reach. The setback forces Alex to consider alternatives that will not only challenge her deeply held views on motherhood, but will also threaten to upend her carefully crafted career path that had landed her in Singapore. As the two women navigate new obstacles, grief leads them to find inner strength and each other.

Necesidades de diseño
I like simple designs (as simple potentially as a line drawing) that are still evocative and tell a story, think Sally Rooney's Normal People. The mood should be subdued but hopeful. Since my novel deals with the themes of barrenness/fertility, the contrast of green (think lush rain forest) and yellow (cracked desert land) might be interesting with the lush triumphing, just as the barren character in the novel comes to realize that even though she cannot have a biological child, she still has much love to give. Going a different route, the image of the tree of life resonates with me strongly, so I am attaching a couple of my own photos of that motif.
